Copyright: Jaywon, Simi, Remixed “Joromi” Without My Permission — Sir Victor Uwaifo

Even after three decades of reign as highlife maestro, ‘Guitar Boy’, as he is fondly called, Sir Victor Uwaifo, has remained relevant on the Nigerian music scene by reason of his evergreen songs, like ‘Mami Water’, ‘Guitar Boy’, and many others.

In an exclusive chat, the one-time Edo State Commissioner for Arts and Culture opened up to Showtime that Jaywon and Simi did not obtain copyright permission from him before recording a remix of his hit song, ‘Joromi’.

“They didn’t contact me before doing a remix of Joromi; but I’m like a father to them so I can’t begin to drag them to court, so let them make a living out of it, but at the same time it’s piracy”, he said.

According to the multi-instrumentalist, simply ascribing credit to him as original composer of the song would suffice as permission for him.

“I’ve heard it too many times on different occasions; it shows the quality of the music that has come a long way. As far as I’m concerned I’ve lived five lives (from one generation to the other), so if they want to appreciate and still appreciate me, it shows the quality of the music.

It’s one thing to be an artiste and it’s another thing to stay on the scene for a long time; so I will not discourage artistes trying to remix or do another rendition of Joromi, but rather encourage them to give credit to the composer if they do”, he added.

Speaking further, he advised young music acts to learn the rudiments of live music performance rather than depending on computer based recording.

“The young ones of today have depended so much on computer which I think is not the best because creativity must have given birth to technology, while technology on the other hand is now usurping creativity for further advancements of technology and that is wrong.

It is the creative mind that created technology; the creative mind has spirit, life, soul and expression but the computer does not. It has no one on one communication, but if you play life music you can embellish with computer but don’t use computer as the major instrument as if it is the creative artiste itself.”

He further advised that they should emulate older musicians because they are the masters of the game. “The young ones should learn from the masters. They should undergo apprenticeship; they should learn the rudiments of music.

Music is not a free for all business; they should learn how to play music. I didn’t fall from the blues, I underwent apprenticeship with a few bands and well known musicians before I set up my own band, that is why I’m still relevant today.

Simi Still Beating Around The Bush On Her Relationship With Adekunle Gold

Singer Simi is still keeping her relationship with Adekunle Gold low key, even though there have been numerous headlines about the pair since 2015.
In this interview with Pulse, she got to talk about Adekunle Gold, how she handles criticism and her love for football and Manchester United.

On her relationship with Gold Simi told Pulse:
“I don’t know why people are obsessed with me and Adekunle Gold, why, I suppose it because we do music together and his voice is on one of my songs and my voice is on one of his songs, so it does make people think something is going on, I can’t seem to dodge this question but I guess it is what it is.”
On celebrities who show off their relationship online she said:
“I am a very private person, I’m very careful with the things I put out there because I know whatever I put out there is going to go public that’s why am very careful.”
On handling criticism:
” There was a time I use to say, why are people so stressed out about my skirt for example, and then I realized that people can have their own opinion. I am honesty the kind of person who doesn’t know how to be stressed about something. I know every person has the chance to get better. Honestly, I am not a fashion person. I like the sneakers, I like the T-shirt and face cap. That’s how I get comfortable.
I’m just an artist, I love to sing and write, this is just me but if you are going to sit down and just bash me…there are people that actually me and advise me and you would know it is coming from their heart and there are those who just want to say something bad” she reveals.
If she isn’t doing any of these things, she is most likely watching her favorite football team, Manchester United play.
” I think I started falling in love with the club like two or three years ago when I have any free time I watch football, I genuinely love the game because, besides Music and Love, Football is the next thing” she says with a huge smile.

'I'll Think About Dating You If You Apologize For Saying Nigerian Men Are Not Romantic' - Uche Maduagwu Tells Simi

Singer Simi, in a recent interview, stated that Nigerian men are not romantic.

According to her, "I think nobody pushes Nigerian men to fight for anything and so there is a sense of entitlement. They believe that they are entitled to everything."

Controversial Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has now reacted to this, saying he'll only date Simi if she apologizes for her false statement.

According to him;

I'll think about dating you if you apologize for saying Nigerian men are not romantic...@symplysimi
That's wrong, Nigerian men are very #romantic, in short, "over romantic" is worrying some of us... Its only in #Nigeria, that you will see a man who doesn't have much, but will still try his best to make sure his #girlfriend uses a better and more expensive #phone than he does, is that not #romantic?
Honestly, you are one of the most #beautiful female singers in Nigeria, and that's because you have a very unique sound which i feel makes you stand out, but i am the #biggest actor in Nigeria too, and i will only think about dating you if you apologize to Nigerian #men... Please nobody should beg me.

‘Nigerian Men Are Not Romantic’ – Singer Simi

As much as she has been rumoured to have had one or two things with singers, Adekunle Gold and Falz at some point, popular singer, Simi, has said Nigerian men “are not romantic.”
Speaking to Punch;
“I don’t believe Nigerian men are romantic. I think Nigerian men do not think they have to be romantic. I am not saying this to bash men but I think no one pushes Nigerian men to fight for anything so they have this sense of entitlement.
I was watching a Nigerian movie one day and there was this unfaithful Nigerian man who left his wife for another woman. At the end of the day, the other woman left him and he retraced his steps to his initial wife. The lady’s mother actually told her to kneel in front of the man and that bothered me a lot even though I knew it was a movie. That is the way things are.
“A lot of men grow up in this country feeling entitled to certain things and they believe that they don’t have to work for anything. This has been the case for generations and a lot of our mothers were unhappy because the society expected them to stay in the relationship.
I am not saying it is the right thing for people to leave their relationships but a man needs to fight for what he wants so he can value it. I think the problem is because a lot of Nigerian men feel self-entitled and I blame our culture and our mothers. Most mothers are the problem because when something happens, they are quick to advise the daughter and wives, they don’t tell the men that their actions are wrong. So if a man feels that he does not have to fight to keep the relationship, he would not.”
The singer who hinted that she is currently in a relationship described the kind of lover she is.
“To describe myself as a lover, I would say that I am a loyal lover. When I am in a relationship, I am all in and I put everything into it. I can only quit a relationship if the person betrays my trust because, to me, trust is everything. Trust is a big foundation for love. If I don’t trust a person, it would be hard to be with the person. If I date someone, I expect that you know what you have to offer. I believe that whatever I do for the person, I should get the same in return. I don’t like people lying to me,” the singer said.

She Is My ‘Orente’, Adekunle Gold Confirms On Simi’s Birthday

‘Orente’ crooner, Adekunle Gold, has confirmed the worst kept secret in the industry today when he revealed that birthday girl, Simisola Ogunleye, better known by the mononym, Simi is his bae.

Simi in wishing herself a happy birthday wrote her full names (Adeola, Bolatito, Opeyemi) on her gram, and eagle eyed fans quickly picked that they were the exact names that Adekunle gold mentioned in his hit single, ‘Orente’.

Simi had written on her gram, “Happy birthday Simisola Bolatito Adeola Opeyemi Oreoluwa Ogunleye. I thank God for so much. A few special people asked me these past few days “Simi what do you want for your birthday?” I thought and I pondered and I thought some more – before I could think of anything, it took me quite a bit. It hit me then how much God has blessed me. I don’t have everything, but I have soooo much to be thankful for.

“I can’t even imagine how empty and nothing my life would be without Jesus looking out for me, guiding me, helping me to be the girl I am today.

“I see ur love. Everyone of u. Counting down to today like it’s your birthday 😫😫😫😭😭😭. I love u so damn much. I love u everyday. Thank you.”

This puts to bed speculations concerning whether they were an item or not.
